The IAM extends its warm congratulations to Chris Newsome, Deputy President of the IAM, for receiving the Order of the British Empire (OBE). Chris, who is also Director of Asset Management at Anglian Water, has been recognised for his services to civil engineering and carbon reduction.
To improve the UK’s water infrastructure, Chris Newsome and his team set up @one Alliance. @one Alliance is a collaborative organisation of consultants and contractors which enables Anglian Water to deliver high quality, low carbon infrastructure at a competitive cost.
Chris has also had an impact at government level on commitments to reducing carbon levels. As Chair of the UK Government’s Green Construction Board Infrastructure Working Group, Chris helped to deliver a national initiative where government ministers and industry leaders pledged to save 24 million tonnes of carbon and £1.46 billion a year by 2050.
Chris told the Stamford Mercury he felt “proud and honoured” to receive the OBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours list.
Chris is now working to raise awareness of low carbon solutions with renowned project teams including the UK’s High Speed 2 and with organisations like the Institution of Civil Engineers, which awarded him the President’s Medal in 2015.
