With the launch of BSI PAS 55:2008, the IAM's attention is turning toward the development of Sector Specific Guidelines (SSG). 

Whilst PAS55 sets down the generic principles of good practice asset management, the sector specific guidelines will provide more detailed guidance and information on how the principles of PAS55 can be implemented.  These guidelines may be either sector specific (such as rail, electricity distribution, facilities management, nuclear etc.) or functional - for example, asset information, risk management, decision support, etc.

The Institute is already involved in a couple of early start initiatives to develop SSGs, namely an SSG for asset management of buildings and civil assets and property; and the development of a functional SSG on Asset Information.

As with many of the IAM’s initiatives these can only succeed with the active involvement of volunteers – both individual and corporate.  So, if you are have an idea for an SSG and want to help in getting it published then please get in touch.
