The IAM collaborates with similar professional bodies to increase awareness of asset management across the world. These enduring relationships vary from joint hosting of events to the IAM’s representation on various initiatives and committees of these organisations. The IAM currently has formal relationships with the organisations listed:
The IAM has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Asset Management Council of Australia. Like the IAM, the AMC is a not for profit organisation whose main objective is to advance all facets of the discipline of Asset Management and to facilitate the exchange of information and related ideas.
The Asset Management Council, was first formed as the Maintenance Engineering Society of Australia Inc (MESA) in the early 1990s, as a Technical Society of the Institution of Engineers Australia. Since then it has rapidly grown to its present membership of 1300 members. In 2005, MESA changed its name to reflect its focus of incorporating all aspects of asset management.
The IAM remains an active member (via the Patrons Group) of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE – Conseil International des Grands Reséaus Electriques).
CIGRE is one of the leading worldwide organisations on Electric Power Systems, covering their technical, economic, environmental, organisational and regulatory aspects. A permanent, non-governmental and non-profit International Association, based in France, CIGRE was founded in 1921. Issues related to planning and operation of power systems, as well as design, construction, maintenance and disposal of HV equipment and plants are at the core of CIGRE's mission.
The IET and the IAM have recognised that through the Technical & Professional Network (TPN) they can assist the achievement of the purpose and strategies of both. Through its relationship the IAM obtains access to the IET’s worldwide presence and stature of the IET. Through the IAM, the IET gains immediate recognition and input from and access to other industry sectors, especially those more advanced in AM such as oil, water and public administration.
The Institution of Engineering and Technology was formed by the merger of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IIE) and now has more than 150,000 members worldwide. It is the largest professional engineering society in Europe and the second largest of its type in the world.
The activities of the Joint Asset Management TPN are open to everyone and we hope both communities will contribute to physical and virtual activities. Both parties are Learned Societies and any benefits will be shared equally, including copyright and other intellectual property. The intention of both the IAM and the IET is that every discipline should recognise the relevance of Asset Management theory and practice.
The IAM has a long history of collaboration with and membership of the European Federation of National Maintenance Societies (EFNMS). Council has recently reconfirmed the IAM's commitment to membership and working more actively to support EFNMS initiatives and the IAM is deputy chair of the EFNMS Asset Mangement Committee..
EFNMS, the European Federation of National Maintenance Societies is a non-profit organization, formed in Duisburg, November 12, 1970, whose objective is the improvement of maintenance for the benefit of the people in Europe. Maintenance is of great importance to trade and industry, to the environment, and to the public welfare and safety.
